What the letters on the drawings mean

The same letters are used in ASME B16.5 and on our drawings.

  • OOutside diameter of the flange
  • TFlange thickness, without the raised face
  • YLength through hub, from flange face to hub end (differs for weld neck, slip-on and lap joint)
  • XHub diameter at the base of the hub
  • AHub diameter at the weld point, equal to pipe OD
  • BBore. Slip-on and lap joint bores are fixed; weld neck bore matches the pipe schedule
  • RRaised face diameter. Raised face height is 1.6 mm (Class 150, 300) or 6.4 mm (Class 600 and above)
  • WBolt circle, also called PCD (pitch circle diameter)
  • CSocket bore of a socket weld flange
  • DSocket depth of a socket weld flange
  • TₜThread length of a threaded flange (NPT)
FAQ

Questions buyers ask

Why does the length through hub change with flange type?

A weld neck flange has a long tapered hub that is butt-welded to the pipe, so its length through hub is the longest. Slip-on, socket weld and threaded flanges have a short hub, and lap joint flanges have their own length. The finder shows the right one for the type you select.

Do the thickness and hub lengths include the raised face?

No. Following ASME B16.5, thickness T and length through hub Y are given without the raised face. Add 1.6 mm for Class 150 and 300, or 6.4 mm for Class 600 and above.

What bore should a weld neck flange have?

The bore of a weld neck flange matches the inside diameter of the pipe it is welded to, so it depends on the pipe schedule. Tell us the schedule and we machine the bore to suit.

Does the finder cover flanges above 24 inch?

Yes. Choose a size from 26 to 60 inch and the finder switches to ASME B16.47, with a Series selector for Series A (MSS SP-44) and Series B (API 605), in weld neck and blind, Class 150 to 900.

Which flange types are available in Class 1500 and 2500?

B16.5 lists weld neck, lap joint and blind flanges in all sizes for Class 1500 and 2500. Slip-on and socket weld are limited to small sizes in Class 1500, and threaded to small sizes in Class 2500. Options that B16.5 does not list are greyed out in the finder.

How accurate is the weight shown?

It is calculated from the drawn geometry in carbon steel, so treat it as an estimate within a few percent. Stainless and nickel alloys weigh slightly more.

Can I get a price for the size I looked up?

Yes. Use Get a price for this or WhatsApp this size under any finder. The size, class and type go straight to our estimation team.
